Pathology Billing Policy

QUT Medical Centre utilises external, third-party pathology providers for all diagnostic testing, including but not limited to blood tests, swabs, and other laboratory investigations. These services are provided by independent pathology companies such as QML Pathology, Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology, and 4Cyte Pathology.

QUT Medical Centre does not bill, invoice, collect payment for, or subsidise pathology testing on behalf of students, staff, or members of the public.

Any fees paid at QUT Medical Centre on the day of your appointment relate solely to the medical consultation with the doctor. These fees do not include the cost of any pathology tests ordered during your consultation.

Patients are responsible for confirming whether pathology testing is covered under their private health insurance or Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) policy. If you are unsure of your level of cover, you are advised to contact your insurer directly prior to undertaking any pathology testing.

Where a doctor performs pathology testing during your consultation, you may request that submission of your samples be delayed while you contact your insurer and/or the pathology provider to confirm coverage. QML Pathology collects samples from our clinics twice daily at 12:00 pm and 4:00 pm.

International students who hold OSHC policies (including Allianz, Medibank, AHM, NIB, and other providers) may receive an invoice from the pathology provider following testing. This may be issued via text message, email, or postal correspondence.

In these instances, students must contact the pathology provider directly and provide their insurance details so the pathology company can assess eligibility and, where applicable, bill the insurer directly.
